Very Short Central Incisors with Dark Shadows at the Gum

Diagnosis

When teeth are very short they are not cosmetically pleasing. Patient #7 has been a friend since elementary school. Her central incisors are too short and have dark shadows at the gum. She shows the gum when she smiles. She wanted lighter, brighter, prettier teeth.

Treatment

We did a trial run by placing composite (white filling) bonding on her teeth to see if that was what she wanted. She wore the bonding for 2 weeks and got imput from her friends and family. We removed her old metal ceramic crowns, made all new ceramic (porcelain) crowns, and rebuilt the remaining upper anterior teeth with porcelain veneers.

Future Treatment

She returns every 6 months for a check-up. Her work is holding up very well at 5 to 6 years. She is very happy with her work. She has a very pretty smile. No chipping of porcelain, decay, or gum problems. The all ceramic crowns and porcelain veneers life expectancy is 7 to 9 years.
